A prisoner has escaped from Ilam Jail. 34-year-old Saila alias Manraj Rai of Mechinagar Municipality-3 Bahundangi in Jhapa has absconded. Although Ilam Jail is known as a model correctional facility in the country, the incident has been taken as a surprise as the inmate escaped from it.
After 5:30 pm on Thursday evening, during the counting of prisoners and detainees, it was revealed that he had absconded as he was not found. Prisoners are counted every evening in the prison.
Dilip Kumar Ghimire, Head of the District Police Office, informed that when he was not found during the counting, the concerned office was informed and the search was on.
He was arrested on October 9 and sent to prison on October 15. A video of him playing tas under the influence of alcohol was also released inside this prison.
