Lawyers representing Speaker of the House of Representatives, Agni Prasad Sapkota, have started placing their arguments before the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court, in Kathmandu, on July 4, 2021.

The Supreme Court has refused to grant interim order in the writ petition filed against the promotion recommendation for the Additional Inspector General of Police (AIG). A single bench of Justice Dr Kumar Chudal today refused to issue an interim order after a preliminary hearing on the writ petition.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGs) Ishwar Babu Karki, Ghanshyam Aryal and Prakash Jung Karki had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court on March 30, alleging that the promotion was done illegally on the basis of seniority and workability. The cabinet had decided to promote DIGs Vasant Kumar Pant, Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk to AIG. Three writ petitions were filed in the Supreme Court against the decision.
