Foreign Affairs Minister Narayan Prakash Saud has emphasized the pivotal role of regional platforms in advancing Nepal’s national interests.
He made these remarks at an event hosted on Thursday by the Policy Research Institute, focusing on the future trajectory of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multilateral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
Saud highlighted Nepal’s active participation in Asian regional associations as a strategy to foster economic, social, and cultural cooperation.
He cited the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), BIMSTEC, and the Asian Cooperation Dialogue as potential catalysts for Nepal to surmount its economic development challenges.
Minister Saud also announced the formation of the BIMSTEC Eminent Persons’ Group (EPG).
The EPG is tasked with proposing actionable recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation and collaboration within BIMSTEC, thereby strengthening and institutionalizing the regional bloc. This initiative underscores Nepal’s commitment to leveraging regional synergies for national development.
