Cases of human trafficking under various pretexts including foreign employment are increasing day by day. Despite police surveillance and awareness campaigns, cases of trafficking have been seen. According to the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police, Kathmandu, 30 people who were trafficked in different countries were rescued in January alone. Among them, 15 women and four children were rescued from India alone, six women from Kuwait, two women from Oman, one woman from Iraq, and two people who were trafficked inside Nepal were rescued, Director of the Bureau Senior Superintendent of Police Jeevan Kumar Shrestha informed.
It has been found that various brokers and manpower companies have misused tourist visas on the pretext of attractive foreign employment and sent them abroad by making fake documents without completing the minimum process of documents to go abroad on tourist visas.
He also informed that 250 people who were about to go abroad and were considered to be at high risk of human trafficking were returned by the Bureau's police team at Tribhuvan International Airport.
Similarly, in January, four people were arrested on the charge of human trafficking and trafficking, and necessary investigations are ongoing.
Superintendent of Police Narahari Regmi informed that six people, one woman, and five men, were investigated and prosecuted in court in the past month.
