Road accidents and death rates increased

The death rate due to road accidents has increased in the district. According to the District Traffic Police Office, Rupendehi, the death rate from accidents is increasing annually. The death toll has risen despite a drop in accidents, the office said.

According to the District Office, 85 people have died in 159 accidents in the district till mid-June of the fiscal year 2021/22 BS. During the same period, 159 people were seriously injured and 56 others suffered minor injuries.

In the last fiscal year 2020/21, 82 people were killed in 243 accidents. This is less than the current year. According to Chief Inspector Keshav KC, 80 people died in 194 accidents in the fiscal year 2019/20.

According to him, driving under the influence of alcohol, trying to overtake the vehicle, mechanical malfunction, speeding, four-wheeler, driving with more passengers than the capacity, violation of traffic rules, accidents due to increasing traffic pressure and death due to accidents have increased.

While investigating the accident, police said that most of the road accidents in the district were due to the driver's fault. Due to this, many people have lost their lives in famine every year.

The district has the highest number of accidents involving motorcycles, small four-wheelers, passenger buses and tippers. Apart from this, auto, rickshaw and cyclists also lost their lives in the accident, according to the office.
