A mock practice of search and rescue operations has been performed in the Chameliya River at Dasharathchand municipality-6, Shera in Baitadi.
The mock practice was undertaken to test a 'rubber boat' which was made available for the first time for carrying out rescue operations in river-induced disasters.
The rescue materials including 'rubber boat' was made available to the District Administration Office last month through the World Food Programme in coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs. The objective was to provide assistance in the proper management of possible river basin based disasters.
Chief District Officer Suresh Panthi informed that the mock practice was done to rescue those who could not manage to swim in the flood-induced as well as other disasters in the river.
The mock would help effectively carry out rescue operations in the possible disaster events in the river basin areas, he expressed his confidence
