As monsoon is approaching, security agencies in Rasuwa district made exercises as part of the preparation of disaster response. Nepali Army's (NA) Bishnu Battalion took leadership in organizing the rehearsal.
Rasuwa is prone to natural disasters especially landslides and floods due to its steep slopes and deep gorges. The NA trained other security agencies as an early preparedness for natural disaster risk reduction and management.
The first exercise was conducted at Sole area of Bojhejhunda of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality in the district while the second one was conducted at Mailung of Uttargaya Rural Municipality-1, shared Madhav Prasad Aryal, Chairperson of Uttargaya Rural Municipality.
People's representatives and locals had also participated in the exercise aimed at educating locals for taking precautionary measures against disasters. During the exercise, a woman who fell off the cliff was rescued with the help of rope and a man stranded in the gorge due to flooding was rescued and provided medical treatment.
Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, Chandra Prakash Adhikari, urged the locals to immediately notify the District Disaster Management Committee in case of disaster related emergency.
So far, 35 army personnel, 10 each from the Armed Police Force and 10 from Civil Police in the district were trained for the disaster response effort.
Dozens of pilgrims who were on the way to Gosainkunda Lake in the district were taken ill due to altitude sickness in the Ganga Dashahara Festival this year. They were rescued by the security personnel, it was shared.
