The Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office has launched a self-declaration room for cargo for passengers coming from abroad. Passengers returning from abroad used to bring gold, jewelry, foreign currency, TVs, and mobile phones in excess of the standard, and when they exited without self-declaration, they were involved in customs evasion.

After the operation of the self-declaration room, passengers will be able to self-declare the goods they have and pay the customs duty of the excess goods easily. Passengers coming from abroad get the facility of self-declaration after passing through the immigration hall before reaching the customs check X-ray machine. For that, the customs office has arranged a self-declaration room with regular staff.

In the absence of such a room, passengers used to carry more goods than the standard, and after being prosecuted by the customs and police, they would be fined and imprisoned for double the value of such goods.

According to the latest provisions regarding gold ornaments, mobile phones, and televisions that passengers returning to Nepal from abroad can bring with them, in the case of women, there is no need to pay customs on gold ornaments up to 50 grams. Similarly, in the case of men, gold jewelry weighing up to 25 grams does not have to pay customs duty.

Head of Airport Customs Office Dr. According to Tokaraj Pandey, there is a legal provision that gold made only by giving the shape of jewelry is not recognized as jewelry

Similarly, in the case of mobile phones, Nepali travelers returning from abroad do not have to pay customs if they bring the mobile they are using with them.

Chief Pandey said that there is a legal provision for travelers who have worked abroad for more than 6 consecutive months with a work permit and are allowed to bring one more mobile phone with them without paying customs duty.

There is a provision for Nepalese travelers who are listed in the social security fund and return to work for 12 consecutive months after taking a work permit and bringing any size or type of television with them to pay customs.

However, Nepali travelers who are not listed in the Social Security Fund and have returned after working for 12 consecutive months with a work permit can bring only a 32-inch television without paying customs. In other cases, all televisions are required to pay customs fees as per the rules. Likewise, passengers with foreign currency worth more than five thousand US dollars must self-declare at the airport. There is a provision that no fees or charges should be paid for declaration of amount.
