CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli has asserted that song, music and dance originated in Nepal.
Interacting with the candidates of Nepali-origin from over 52 countries chosen for the 'My Voice Universe and My Dance Universe' shows at his residence on Tuesday, Oli maintained that Nepal's history of song, music, art and heritage dates back to the Satya Yuga.
Oli further said, "We have heard and seen Tandav dance-the dance of Lord Shiva. How old is this dance? Isn't it the matter dating back to Satya Yug? That is why we are way ahead than other countries in terms of songs, music, art, culture and heritages."
The former Prime Minister held the view that Nepal was not only the birthplace of song and music but was a cradle of knowledge, Vedic rituals and education.
The dance shows being organized by Trans-National Welfare and Support Foundation of America are targeted towards Nepalis residing abroad and having a knack and interest in performing arts especially in singing and dance.
The award carries a purse of Rs 10 million for the winner while the first runner up would get Rs 3 million and the third one would get Rs 2 million, according to Omraj Gurung, board member of the Foundation.
The Foundation was established with an objective to protect and promote Nepali language, art and culture. The organization involves Bhutanese Americans of Nepali origin.
