Speaker Devraj Ghimire has called on lawmakers to extend help in ending the ongoing House stalemate.
Speaking at a programme organised by the National Human Rights Commission in Dhulikhel of Kavrepalanchowk on Friday, the Speaker said the continuous stalemate in the House was sure to obstruct the major business of the parliament including the formulation of laws.
The regular proceedings of the House have been impeded for some weeks. Deliberations on multiple bills have been postponed, thus affecting the overall performance of the parliament, according to the Speaker who sought cooperation of lawmakers from their respective quarters to resume the business.
He added that continuous obstructions had prevented the deliberations on even the recommendations to degrade the status of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The Speaker, however, said he was officially and personally much worried over the proposal to reduce the NHRC status.
It is noted that the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) in October, 2022 recommended the downgrading of the NHRC status from 'A' to 'B' on the basis of the assessment of its review of the two consecutive years.
