Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Dr. Surya Dhungel said the NHRC was working in line with the 6-year strategic plan to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs). Almost all points of SDGs are related to human rights, so NHRC activities would contribute to them, he asserted during a workshop organized on 'SDGs and Human Rights by the NHRC Madhes Province office here Monday.

He however pointed out the need for collective and collaborative efforts to take together SDGs and human rights to achieve SDGs. The NHRC would coordinate with all three layers of government and civil society for it, according to him.

Poverty, inequality, and caste discrimination are challenges of human rights, he said, adding that the achievement of SDGs would help address these problems.

On the occasion, Province Assembly member Ram Ashish Yadav viewed the human rights situation in Madhes as not satisfactory. Commitment in a paper does not solve problems, he argued.
