In Nepal in 1990, on this day, the multi-party system was restored. For 30 years, the non-party panchayat system in Nepal deprived the people of their democratic rights. The parties, which were banned for 30 years, were able to carry out their activities openly from today.

The constitution issued after the restoration of the multi-party system in Nepal in 1990 was praised as one of the best constitutions in the world.

After the promulgation of this constitution, the then-king accepted to become a constitutional monarchy. Earlier, the king's position was above the constitution.

After the political success of 1990, Nepali people felt free. After political changes in the open state, the parties were not so successful in leading the country towards economic and social changes. There was no mutual agreement between the parties. The rapidly changing government has pushed the country towards instability. Meanwhile, the 10-year Maoist People's War began.

After that, the country moved towards the path of instability. In this connection, 10 members of the royal family, including the then King Birendra Shah, were killed due to the Royal palace murder incident.

After Gyanendra, who became the king, took the executive power in his hands, the amount of instability in the country was increasing. After that, due to the joint movement between various parties and the Maoists, the 240-year monarchy ended forever and a republic was established in the country.

The restoration of the multi-party system in Nepal in 1990 opened the door for the establishment of a republic in the country.

There is a need today for all political parties to be aware to protect the political rights gained from the people's movement and to lead the country towards stability
