Three people were killed when a motorcycle and a pickup collided with eacother at Itahari of Sunsari district along the East-West Highway today.
The deceased have been identified as Karan Chaudhary, 26, Shambhu Chaudhary, 27 and Aninesh Chaudhary, 24, of Itahari-16, according to Superintendent of Police, Raj Kumar Rai.
The accident took place when a motorcycle (Ko 29 Pa 3712) where four people were riding collided with a pickup van with Indian number plate (WB 73 E 9117) that was coming from east to west, police said.
Injured in the accident, the motorcyclist and pillion riders were rushed to Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) where they breathed their last during the treatment, informed SP Rai.
Critically injured 27-year-old Prem Lal Chaudhary is currently undergoing treatment at the BPKIHS. Police have been carrying out investigation into the accident taking Govinda Barmoon, 32, an Indian nation from Darjeeling under control.
As per Police's preliminary investigation, major cause behind the road accident was the overspeeding motorcycle.
