Three dead, seven hurt as jeep plunges 500m in Gulmi

Three persons were killed and seven others injured in a jeep accident that occurred in Dobhan of Musikot Municipality of Gulmi district.

Police identified the deceased as Tej Bahadur Khattri (43) of Chandrakot Rural Municipality-4, Resham Karki (36) of the same rural municipality and Sunita BK (62) of Resunga Municipality-2, all in Gulmi district.

The jeep (Lu 1 Ja 4559) heading towards Tamghas from Shantipur fell about 500 metres below the road, killing three passengers on the spot and injuring seven others, on Wednesday morning, according to Gulmi District Police Office.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopal Chandra Bhattarai identified the injured as residents of Chandrakot Rural Municipality.  Binita Pariyar of ward 6, Muna Bhandari of ward 7, Gagan Chettri of ward 4, jeep driver Bom Bahadur BK of ward 5, Sushil BK of ward 8 and Gokul Bhandari of ward 7 in the rural municipality.

Likewise, Ramila Bhandari of Resunga Municipality-2 also sustained injuries in the accident.

Among the injured ones, Gokul, Ramila and Muna were receiving treatment at Gulmi Hospital in Tamghas while the remaining others were being treated at Lumbini Medical College in Palpa district.

Two of the injured were said to be in critical condition. Security personnel had recovered the bodies of the deceased and rescued the injured.

Injured Gokul Bhandari was quoted in Rastriya Samachar Samiti as saying, “I was going to Rupakot for some paperwork at the District Administration Office. There was a pile of landslide debris at the corner of the road. The road seemed to be easy. However, suddenly the jeep we were travelling on fell below the road.”

Meanwhile, security personnel have yet to ascertain the cause of the road accident.
