Vehicles coming from different cities of the country to Beni, the district headquarters of Myagdi, and from Beni to different rural areas of the district are crowded with food, fruits, vegetables, construction materials and other vehicles, but when they return from the village, they return empty-handed.
More than three dozen rural roads in the district have fewer vehicles and more consumer and construction materials. According to the transport businessmen and traders, the vehicles, which are full of goods going to the village, return empty when they return from the village.
Although the rural areas of the district have recently made significant progress in commercial agriculture and animal husbandry, no visible results have been achieved. According to Jeevan Kumar Bishwakarma, former president of Udyog Vanijya Sangha, the youths who have been returning to the village from abroad for the past few years have been cultivating vegetables and fruits commercially, goats, chickens and livestock but have not been able to export them regularly.
The locals have said that the number of people leaving the village and entering the city for additional facilities is increasing even if the road reaches the rural areas of the district. Indu Subedi of Dhaulagiri Gaonpalika-6 said, "Old houses in the village are empty. Later houses are being built using rods and cement without using local resources. He said that they used to enter more and return empty-handed.
Despite the increase in the number of houses being built in the villages, the young manpower is declining. According to the locals, the productive activities have been stopped as a large number of youths are staying outside the village for foreign employment, migration, employment and study. The northern and western regions of Myagdi are considered to be the source of agriculture, animal husbandry, forest products and herbs.
Shyam Bahadur BK of Malika Gaonpalika-2 said that 17 villages in North and Myagdi are considered as excellent villages in terms of productivity but the villagers are still earning their livelihood by eating food coming to the village through tractors and jeeps.
The villages of Rum, Devisthan, Okharbot, Takam, Muna, Mudi, Bim, Gurja and Narchang, Sikh, Ghar, Bhurung, Tatopani, Doba, Histan and other villages of North Myagdi have high potential for agricultural produce and forest products. This was stated by Tek Bahadur Pun of Narchang.
Locals said that there was no change in the economic condition of the villagers after the road was reached. It has been found that a large part of the remittances sent by relatives from abroad is spent in unproductive areas. There has been no change in the trend of truckloads of goods going from town to village and coming and going empty. It clarifies the fragile state of our financial system. Locals have complained that the transport businessmen are charging exorbitant fares as the condition of the roads is deteriorating due to the tendency to build roads due to political pressure. "There are a lot of things to take from the city to the village. Not only by truck or tractor but also by bus. But when there is nothing to bring from the village, you have to return empty-handed," said Kamal GC, a transport entrepreneur.
