Transport entrepreneurs have handed over a symbolic key along with a list of their demands to the government. The Central Federation of Public Transport Nepal handed over the key to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba through Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Kali Prasad Parajuli, today.

The federation submitted a seven-point demand to the government and has been protesting since July 8. The transport entrepreneurs have stated that if they demands are not addressed then they will not be able to operate their vehicles.

The Central Federation of Public Transport Nepal has been urging the government to prioritise people who are involved in the public transportation sector and provide them with vaccines against the coronavirus. Similarly, it has also urged the government to facilitate the treatment of transport workers at the National Trauma Centre in Kathmandu in the event of an accident.

The entrepreneurs have also sought for a revision in the public transportation fares. Likewise, they have also urged the government to check the condition of public vehicles that are 20 years old and allow them to operate for another 10 years if the condition of the concerned vehicle is good.

The other demand that the transport entrepreneurs have placed before the government is to declare the period that they were not allowed to operate their vehicles due to COVID-19 as zero hour, and provide them with additional loans through the Monetary Policy. They have also sought refinancing facility and asked the government to introduce a policy whereby their loans can be restructured.

The federation has also sought an insurance policy worth Rs 20 lakh for transport workers if they are seriously injured in an accident.
