Chairperson of Jhapa Rural Municipality, Jay Narayan Sah, mentioned that the municipality would pay the electricity bills of all the families who have consumed less than 20 units of electricity. He informed that the rural municipality had separated a budget of Rs 20 lakh for the purpose through the ninth session of the rural municipality.
Sah said a policy had also been included in the budget to transport all pregnant women in the rural municipality to any hospital within Jhapa district via an ambulance without charging any fee. A budget of Rs 5 lakh has been separated for the purpose, he mentioned.
Meanwhile, Kamal Rural Municipality has decided to pay a certain portion of the electricity bills for the energy utilised in agricultural purposes by farmers residing in the rural municipality. Chairperson of the rural municipality, Menuka Kafle, informed that the municipality would pay 50 per cent of the electricity bills for energy consumed during irrigation purposes for the months of Falgun, Chaitra, Baisakh and Jestha (mid-February to mid-June).
She said that the rural municipality had decided to pay the electricity bills to encourage both farmers who depended on monsoon rains and those who were into commercial farming.
