Vaginal swab of teenager killed in Baitadi sent to forensic lab

The vaginal swab of the teenage girl who was found dead in a forest in Baitadi district has been sent to Kathmandu valley for testing.

Seventeen-year-old Bhagarathi Bhatta of Chadepani area in Dogadakedar Rural Municipality-7 was found dead in a forest on February 3.  

Police suspected that the teenage girl may have been strangled to death after being raped. 

Spokesperson for Baitadi District Police Office (DPO), Janak Dhami was quoted in Rastriya Samachar Samiti as saying that the swab has been sent to the National Forensic Science Laboratory for further investigation, 

"Works on further investigation are underway by securing all the evidence collected from the incident site," Dhami said. Samples like vaginal swab have been collected for the DNA test.

Chief of the District Hospital Baitadi, Dr Basanta Raj Joshi said how the teenager died would be clear after the autopsy report is out. Although the postmortem was conducted on Saturday, the report has not yet been made public. Dr Joshi said works on preparing the report have reached the final phase and they would submit the report to the police today itself.

However, the family members of the deceased have said they would not receive her body until the truth behind her death is out and the culprits responsible for her death are brought to book.
