75 tons of waste has been generated in the spring 2023 climbing season at Everest Base Camp
In this season, Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee SPCC received a total of 60,488 kgs wastes from expedition groups at Everest base camp.
Burnable Garbage - 21,449 kgs
Non-burnable Garage - 7,536 kgs
Human Waste - 21,507 kgs
Kitchen Waste - 9,996 kgs
Additional 8,954 kgs (4,537 kgs burnable and 4,417 kgs non-burnable) garbage was brought down by expedition groups from higher camps as per the 8 kg rule.
SPCC team has already transported all burnable and non-burnable garbage to waste management facility at Namche for further processing and disposal. All recyclable garbage will be transported to Kathmandu for recycling.
