Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has pledged to maintain the 'A' class status of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
During a meeting with the NHRC Chairperson and other members at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers on Tuesday, the PM pledged to maintain the 'A' class status of NHRC.
Taking stock of the current status of the NHRC, the PM said that a new Act of the NHRC would be formulated in line with the Paris Principles.
On the occasion, current status of NHRC, new Act of the NHRC and status of the commission were discussed.
During the meeting, NHRC Chairperson Tapa Bahadur Magar demanded that the government take the initiatives to maintain 'A' class status and ensure financial autonomy, appointment of its members and career development of its officials in line with the Paris Principles.
NHRC Members Dr Surya Dhungel, Mihir Thakur, Manoj Duwadi, Lily Thapa, Chief Secretary of government Baikuntha Aryal, Acting Secretary of NHRC Murari Prasad Kharel, joint secretary Tikaram Pokharel and others were present during the meeting.
