A task force has been formed in the Kailali district of the five ruling parties that have agreed to form an alliance in the local level election to be held on May 13.

The task force formed by the five-party meeting held in Dhangadhi on Friday includes Nepali Congress district president Narayan Dutta Bhatt, CPN (Unified Socialist Party) district in-charge Dirgha Bahadur Sodari, CPN (Maoist Center) district in-charge Hari Gyawali, Rashtriya Janamorcha's Jagat Prakash Joshi and Janata Samajwadi's Horilal Chaudhary.

According to Nrip Sunar, District Secretary of the Nepali Congress, the meeting of the task force will be held again on April 10 to discuss the election coordination. As the date of local elections draws near, the leaders and cadres of the five parties have agreed to form an electoral alliance. As efforts are being made to reach a consensus, confusion is being created among the leaders and cadres of the coalition parties.

Congress district secretary Sunar said, "Although discussions are underway on how to form an electoral alliance in the district as per the agreement reached between the five parties at the centre, no agreement has been reached."

After the five parties started preparing for the election alliance, the opposition CPN (UML) is also discussing forming an electoral alliance with other parties. In the local level election held five years ago, the UML had won in Kailali in seven tiers, the Congress in three tiers, the Maoist Center in two tiers and the then Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Loktantrik in one-tier.
