Voting for the election of central office bearers and members of the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress has not started yet. Convention delegates have been queuing at the polling booths of the National Assembly and Bhrikuti Mandap since this morning.
According to the party's Central Election Committee, the polling could not start due to technical reasons. It is said that voting could not start due to some delay in the printing of ballot papers.
According to the committee, 487 candidates are vying for 132 posts. As per the Congress constitution, 134 out of 167 working committees will be elected and the remaining 33 members will be nominated by the central chairperson. Considering the possible risk of the COVID-19 epidemic, 'full body' sanitation has been arranged for the voters.
Security has also been beefed up as the prime minister, top party leaders, home ministers and other prominent people will cast their votes. Candidates of the party, president, vice-president, general secretary, joint general secretary, and central member are seeking votes in the Bhrikuti Mandap premises using propaganda and promotional cultural events.
