Independent candidate's lead is increasing in Janakpur

Independent candidates have been widening their lead in the Janakpurdham sub-metropolis, which is also the capital of Madhes state. The joint mayoral candidate from the five-party alliance is in the fifth position.

Lal Kishore Shah of the Janata Samajwadi Party, the joint mayoral candidate from the coalition, saw disappointing results. Independent candidate Manoj Sah is leading in the mayoral race with 3,956 votes while the incumbent mayoral candidate Lal Kishor is in the fifth position with 429 votes.

Before him, UML's Shiva Shankar Sah came second with 2,086 votes, independent candidate Balram Mahato came third with 1,113 votes and LSP's Manoj Chaudhary came fourth with 731 votes.

Though the results of the chief candidate from the coalition party looked disappointing, Kishori Sah of the Nepali Congress, who has become the deputy chief candidate from the coalition party, has maintained the lead from the very beginning. He is leading with 3,442 votes while Runa Jha of the CPN-UML is following him with 1,737 votes.

Chief Election Officer Brajesh Pyakurel informed that the counting of votes in seven wards of Janakpurdham Sub-metropolis, which has a total of 25 wards, has been completed so far. According to him, Deepnarayan Yadav (Devu) of Congress is the ward president of ward no. 1, Shiv Kumar Sah of Congress in ward no. 2, Dipendra Kumar Sah of Tamlopa in ward no. 3, Suresh Jha of Congress in ward no. 4 Bechan Shah Haluwai of UML in ward no. 5 Congress' Dineshwar Sah in ward no. 6 and Congress' Chandeshwor Shah in ward no. 25 have won the position of ward chairperson. Chief Election Officer Pyakurel said that the counting of votes in other wards was underway.
