Rastriya Swatantra Party (RaSwaPa) leader and former minister Sishir Khanal said that we should rise above political thoughts and work towards development of the country.
At an environment-oriented interaction organized by Janakalyan Social Centre and Siddheshwor Corridor Committee here today, leader Khanal viewed that development works should not be politicized. "Politics should be exercised and taken forward in a different manner. The practice of negating other political parties should be ended."
Stating that although discussions were held in various levels to clean up Bagmati Corridor, Khanal ruled that not much discussions were held regarding development of the Bishnumati Corridor.
Expressing his concerns about Kathmandu becoming one of the polluted cities in the world, he opined that every person had an important role to make the city environment-friendly.
According to him, the local level government should pay special attention to the development of local areas since, he argued, that the federal and provincial government would remain busy with formulation of laws. "The local level government should also deliver on development, securing support from the federal and provincial government."
Similarly, Nepali Congress (NC) leader and Bagmati Province Assembly member Hari Prabha Khadgi Shrestha asserted that the awareness to make an environment-friendly city should come from people and families in urban areas. She underscored tree plantation, arguing that afforestation would directly benefit human life.
Furthermore, she said that the condition of sewage, water supply and electricity should be looked into while blacktopping the roads. She assured that the Bagmati Province government was committed towards development of local levels along with policy making.
Likewise, NC Tokha Municipality President, Om Krishna Bimali, said that the people's representatives should have the willpower to deliver. Tokha Municipality ward no 9 Chairperson, Ram Bhakta Ghimire, observed that the local government would only be developed if there were collaboration and cooperation between the local and the federal government.
Janakalyan Social Centre Chairperson Bikas Kumar Das shared that the event was organized with an objective to transform Kathmandu City into a green, clean and environment-friendly city. "Development of any country is only possible if the natural environment and politics are favorable," he said.
Siddheshwor Corridor Committee Chairperson Umakanta Siwakoti commented that all three levels of government had an equal role to make Bishnumati Corridor green, clean and beautiful.
