Nepali Congress senior leader Ramchandra Paudel has said the Nepali Congress could support the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Dahal-Nepal faction to form a government.

Speaking at a news conference organised by Nepal Press Union Chitwan here today, he said NC should take the country out of the political crisis by supporting other parties.

"NC can help other parties form and run the government while remaining in its poise. The Congress' role would be even more pertinent in this. We can be positive on this topic and discussions will be held in this connection," the party senior leader said.

Stating it was not easy for the party president Sher Bahadur Deuba to run the government in the present situation, he said he was not trying to stop Deuba from becoming the Prime Minister but what he wanted to stress on was to come to a conclusion after consultations as to what would be good for democracy and the system.

"The present situation is precarious. Who takes the responsibility of giving the way out to the country? I do not see any other party except the Congress to play a role in this," he said.

He shared that he would demand convening of the party's central committee meet in the meeting of the office-bearers scheduled for today, adding the party should move ahead by making a policy decision. He said," We will discuss on topics like why should NC join a coalition government, how it should be a part of such government and in what status," senior leader Poudel elaborated.

Replying a question, he said the Nepali Congress should address the present 'political mess' and the new government should be formed not for the convenience of India, China and America but for consolidating and upholding Nepal's system.

He said he did not need any state post going to the extent of damaging the 'system' and also never wanted the post of the President in its present status, expressed his desire to lead an active life until he is alive.
