A section of Nepali Congress (NC) has called for conducting the party's national general convention in the given timeframe.
A meeting of the leaders held at former general secretary Prakash Man Singh's residence on Thursday stressed the need for conducting the party's national general convention in time even by cutting the processes short. They argued that otherwise, the party's legitimacy will vanish after September 8.
Talking to the media after the meeting, NC senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel said that the general convention should be held on time by cutting the processes short from the election committee.
"The dispute on party active membership is a cause for delay in the general convention. This should be settled soon," Poudel said.
He was of the view that the active membership row could not be finalised since party President Sher Bahadur Deuba stood at the helm of the premiership and he was supposed to attend many events.
The leaders are also learned to have discussed ways to pile pressure on party establishment to release the general convention schedule soon.
Present on the occasion were leader Poudel, general secretary Dr Shashanka Koirala, former general secretary Singh, leader Arjunnar Singh KC, Bal Bahadur KC, Dr. Minendra Rijal, and others.
