Nepali Congress has won a historic victory in Chandragiri municipality. In the local level election held last Friday, the Congress has succeeded in getting the majority ward chairman including the mayor in its favor.
Ghanshyam Giri, a well-known academic and development-loving leader, has been re-elected as the mayor for the second term on behalf of the Nepali Congress (NC). Giri, the newly elected mayor, got 15,475 votes while his nearest rival Uttam Bahadur Rawat of the CPN (UML) got 14,651 votes. He was the outgoing ward chairman of ward no. 15.
Harishyam Ranamagar in ward no. 1, Durgalal Maharjan in ward no. 3, Krishna Prasad Khadgi in ward no. 4, Shambhu KC in ward no. 7, Pralhad Rijal in ward no. 8, Achyut Adhikari in ward no. 9, Narendra Raj Shrestha in ward no.11, Shrikrishna Khatri in ward no. 13 and Ghanshyam Luintel in ward no. 15.
Newly elected mayor Giri is also the chairman of the Chandragiri Municipal Working Committee. After being elected, he told the media, "I will fulfill the commitments I made to the people of the city during the election in the areas of education, health, infrastructure development and so on. I will establish this Chandragiri city as a model technology friendly municipality of the country. ”
He won the election with the slogan 'Production, Employment and Marketing: Good Governance with Technology'. His roadmap includes building good governance and information-friendly cities, promoting products, establishing technical schools and training centers, emphasizing on technology-friendly education, promoting quality healthcare, clean and pleasant environment, tourism promotion: protection of religion, culture, art and guthi.
The population of Chandragiri is 136,928. According to the Election Commission, out of 47,264 voters in the municipality, 36,712 had cast their votes in this election. In this election, 22 polling stations and 56 polling booths were designated.
In the local level election held in 2017 AD, there were 38,836 voters. In that election, Congress leader Giri was elected as the mayor by getting 13,309 votes. In that election, the Nepali Congress had won the post of ward chairperson in wards 3, 4, 7, 12 and 14 of Chandragirika. Rajendra Bikram Bania and Navin Maharjan, vice-presidents of the Chandragiri Municipal Committee of the Nepali Congress, have thanked all the people of the town for casting their invaluable votes to lead the Chandragiri municipality.
