Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and main opposition CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli held discussions at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar yesterday evening.

During the one-and-a-half hour long meeting, the US government’s MCC grant and other contemporary political issues were discussed, PM’s press adviser Govinda Pariyar shared.

On the occasion, PM Deuba had urged Chairperson Oli to support the bid to endorse the MCC registered in the parliament when the latter was the PM.

PM Deuba asked main opposition party chief to cooperate in resuming the House proceeding and endorsing the MCC compact.

The government has tabled the MCC compact in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Sunday for the ratification process. There is a timeline pressure to pass the compact from the parliament within March 1.

The government has beefed up consultations with all political parties’ leaders to ratify the MCC from the parliament by February 28.

In the meeting today, Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice-President Purna Bahadur Khadka were present from the NC while Chairman Oli, Senior Vice-Chair Ishwar Pokharel, Vice Chair Bishnu Prasad Poudel and Assistant General Secretary Bishnu Rimal were also present.
