Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also the chairperson of CPN UML, is preparing to call a meeting of the party’s Steering Committee that was in place on May 16, 2018. Oli has decided to call a meeting of the concerned Steering Committee as the dispute within the party has been increasing with each passing day.

After PM Oli decided to call the meeting senior leaders are in touch with members of the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led faction. The meeting has been called by the prime minister so that Nepal and Jhalanath Khanal will also attend it and a message can be given about party unity. However, it is still not certain whether Nepal and Khanal will participate in the meeting.

Leaders who are close to PM Oli have said that the meeting has been called based on the six-point proposal put forward by the prime minister for party unity. However, since members who are in the Nepal faction still have disciplinary measures in place against them their participation in the meeting in uncertain.

PM Oli had expelled 11 members from the party including Nepal and Khanal. Also, the six-point proposal put forward by the prime minister was rejected by the Nepal faction with their own six-point demand.

Meanwhile, a meeting was held today between Bam Dev Gautam and Bishnu Prasad Poudel at Gautam’s residence. The two leaders held discussions regarding the unity of the party.

The CPN UML has at the moment felt the need for the party to unite as its performance in the National Assemblies of various provinces has been weakened. Even PM Oli has become flexible to revert to the party structure of May 16, 2018.
