Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel has won the House of Representatives from Tanahun-1 by a wide margin and will enter the Parliament for the sixth time.
Senior leader Poudel was previously elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Tanahun-1 in 1991 and then from Tanahun-2 in 1994, 1999, 2007 and 2012.
Senior leader Poudel was defeated in the 2016 election by Krishna Kumar Shrestha of the then Left Alliance by a margin of more than six thousand votes. After being elected from Tanahun-1 under the House of Representatives and State Assembly Member Election-2022, Poudel has scheduled a trip to the Parliament for the sixth time. For this, Poudel defeated Ek Bahadur Rana of CPN (UML) by a margin of 5,375 votes.
Out of a total of 66,158 votes, 4,000 votes were invalidated. Assistant Election Officer Meen Bahadur Kunwar informed that Poudel received 25 thousand three hundred and 18 votes. Contestant Rana has received 19,943 votes.
Vikas Sigdel of Rashtriya Swatantra Party got 6,878 votes, independent candidate Govindraj Joshi got 6,878 votes, RPP's Vinod Gharti got 2,483 votes.
Poudel, who said that he has become a candidate to continue the incomplete development plan of the district, has said that he wants to work in an executive position. Lakshmi Bhakta Khanal, secretary of Nepali Congress Tanahun, said that the path was opened after Paudel was elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Tanahun, stating that he wanted to hold an executive position for good governance and development in the country.
Poudel, who was born in Bahunpokhara, Risti Village Municipality of Tanahun, in October 2001, was involved in politics from the age of 16. Poudel participated in the armed revolution of 2018 run by the Nepali Congress. Poudel was elected the student union president of Saraswati campus in 2023. Paudel also participated in the establishment of Nepal Students Association in 2022.
Poudel was elected to the House of Representatives for the first time in 1991 from Tanahun-1. In the meantime, he has become the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home, Local Development, Agriculture, and Communications.
He has also fulfilled the responsibility of Speaker. After joining the Maoist peace process, Poudel was also the coordinator of the Peace Secretariat.
Poudel holds a master's degree in Nepali from Tribhuvan University.
The Nepali Congress has won both the two House of Representatives and four State House members of the district. Similarly, the Nepali Congress has won two provincial assemblies, CPN (UML) and CPN (Maoist) Center each in one provincial assembly.
Nepali Congress has won in Tanahun House of Representatives Constituency No. 1 and 2. Also, Ashok Kumar Shrestha of Constituency No. 1 State Assembly 1 Nepali Congress has won. Shrestha has received 15,367 votes, while Ram Bahadur Gurung of the rival CPN (UML) has received 11,155 votes. In addition, Hari Bahadur Chuman of CPN (Maoist Center) has won in State Assembly 2 of the same region. Chuman has received 13,271 votes.
Poorna Bahadur Gurung of the rival CPN (UML) has received ten thousand five hundred and three votes.
Shankar Bhandari of the Nepali Congress has won as a member of the House of Representatives of Tanahun Region No. 2. Bhandari has received 30,604 votes. Kiran Gurung of the rival CPN (UML) got 25,130 votes.
