Preliminary estimate of 61% voting: EC

The Election Commission has made a preliminary estimate of 61 percent voter turnout in today's House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections. The Commission clarified that this number is lower than expectations. The commission has estimated that 65 percent voting in Madhesh province has taken place and that the voting in province number 1 is also less.

The Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya informed that the election was completed peacefully except for few incidents. He informed that 1 person died in the incident in Bajura and some were injured in other places as well.

Today, the election has been postponed in 15 places including Surkhet, Nawalparasi, Gulmi and Bajura and the commission has instructed the relevant election office to hold the election within 2 days.

According to the Commission, some people have been arrested for violating the rules of the election, such as voting repeatedly, and the search for some of the people who violated the rules is ongoing.

The Commission has informed that after the end of the voting, the ballot boxes are being transported to the counting place from this evening and the counting of votes will be started from tonight in some places as well as in Kathmandu. The aim is to bring ballot boxes from 7 Himalayan districts to the district headquarters by helicopter by 4 pm tomorrow.
