Prithvi Subba Gurung claims for chief minister in Gandaki

Prithvi Subba Gurung has claimed for the post of Chief Minister with the support from lawmakers of Rastriya Janamorcha and Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal.

The erstwhile Chief Minister Gurung today submitted his claim along with the letter from lawmaker Krishna Thapa and Mahantha Thakur-led faction of JSP, at the Office of the Province Chief.

On Friday, Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokharel, a lawmaker of Nepali Congress, made a claim for the post of CM with the signatures of a majority of National Assembly members.

Pokharel has laid claim to the chief minister’s post with the support of 15 lawmakers of Nepali Congress, 11 from CPN (Maoist Centre), and 2 each from Rastriya Janamorcha and Janata Samajbai Party-Nepal. He also has the support of Deepak Manange.

Chief of Gandaki Province, Sita Kumari Poudel, had called on the provincial lawmakers to make a claim for the post of chief minister by June 12. The call to make a claim for the post had been made as Prithvi Subba Gurung who had been appointed as chief minister of the province as per Article 168 (3) of the Constitution of Nepal on May 12 could not win the vote of confidence in the National Assembly as per Article 168 (4).

The statement issued by the provincial chief’s office has stated that until the next government is formed the current council of ministers will handle the responsibilities as per Article 169 (3) of the Constitution.
