Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) president Rabi Lamichhane has registered his candidacy for the by-election to the member of House of Representatives from Chitwan electoral constituency no 2. The by-election is taking place on April 23.
Lamichhane reached the Chief Election Officer's Office at 10 am today and registered his candidacy. Sita Gyawali proposed the candidacy while Bikram Shrestha seconded it.
Talking to the media persons after the nomination registration, the RSP president said the election should be held in a free and fair manner in accordance with the spirit of healthy competition. He said it is regrettable that a by-election has to be held four months after the House of Representatives election was conducted. Lamichhane expressed that he was excited by the election and took it as a part of democratic exercise. He expressed the confidence that he would win the election again in this constituency.
The RSP president claimed that his candidacy was for the prosperity of the nation, establishing good governance, cleansing the politics, inscribing a bright future of the next generation and for upholding democratic values.
Stating that he takes part of his responsibility for the happening of by-election in this constituency, he said the argument against him in the citizenship case that he could not become a candidate was wrong.
"I gave up my American citizenship in 2018 itself. Since it is mentioned in the Constitution that one can apply for Nepali citizenship after three months of the abandoning (the citizenship of another country), it does not apply in my case," he argued.
There are 124 thousand 695 voters in Chitwan electoral constituency no 2 this time. They will be voting at 138 voting centres of 43 polling stations.
