Ruling alliance leaders discuss govt's common minimum program

A discussion on the government's common minimum program was held among the parties in the ruling alliance.

A meeting of the senior leaders held at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar today almost finalized the policy and programs of the coalition government. The remaining issues will be finalized by holding a similar meeting on Tuesday as well.

Senior leaders of Nepali Congress, the CPN (Maoist Center) and the Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal (JSP) are likely to make the common minimum program public on Tuesday while an agreement has also been reached to expand the cabinet, said Bishnu Sapkota, press expert of CPN (Maoist Center) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda'.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Maoist Chair Dahal and JSP Chair Upendra Yadav.

The ruling coalition had formed a task force under the coordination of NC General Secretary Purna Bahadur Khadka to formulate the government's common minimum program. Dr Minendra Rijal and Ramesh Lekhak from the NC, Dev Prasad Gurung and Barshaman Pun from the CPN (Maoist Centre) and Rajendra Shrestha and Mahendra Ray Yadav from the JSP are members of the task force. In the common minimum programme, the task force has addressed the priorities of the coalition government, policies and programs, implementation of federalism among other issues.

In today's meeting, the senior leaders also agreed to work in the interest of the country and people and to make the functioning of the government more effective.
