The main opposition CPN UML continued its obstructions at the National Assembly today too. Once the session kicked off, UML members stood from their respective seats as a gesture of protest and the move followed NA Chair Ganesh Prasad Timilsina granting time to party Chief Whip Khimlal Bhattarai to put his views.

Chief Whip Bhattarai accused the current coalition partners of demonstrating non-political character by moving to the court against the erstwhile government due to greed for power.

“In the past, the public had assumed that the parties reached the court against the previous government for the safeguarding of the Constitution, but it has been clear that the move was not for so. Such greed has been proved now,” he said.

He took time to claim that the Ordinance relating to the political parties was brought by the incumbent government just to weaken the UML and further divide it. The coalition partners were convinced that it would be hard for them to gain a political height without seeing the UML’s split. He also accused the current government of intending to promote money laundering by deciding not to seek the source of income. The government staying tightlipped about the death of Jaysingh Dhami of Darchula has left a ground to doubt over its silence.

He also condemned the police firing in Rupandehi, the home district of Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand, on Sunday, leaving four landless people dead. The UML Chief Whip demanded an impartial investigation into the case, free medical treatment to the injured, and proper compensation to the deceased families. "The government made a grave mistake by violently suppressing the uprising of landless squatters," he chastised.
