Code for Change Organizing Codefest 2023; Nepal’s Biggest National Level Hackathon

Since its inception, Code for Change has supported students studying technology in Nepal by conducting workshops, webinars, and hackathons to promote their personal and professional skills. Its leadership and executive team, which changes every year, are always doing something new and useful, and through different programs, they are sharing technology knowledge with non-technical people even in the corners of the country.

To achieve its mission and vision, CFC is organizing the second edition of the largest national-level hackathon in Nepal, called Codefest 2023.

"The national event, Codefest 2023, will be run by "Code for Change". "Code for Change” is a not-for-profit organization formed in collaboration with students from various colleges around the country to bring IT students and industry professionals together. We believe that the students should be provided with relevant skills to prepare them for their careers. Realizing this fact, we have initiated “Code for Change” to provide a platform and opportunities for them. In the past Two years, we have conducted nationwide hackathons, workshops, and training programs targeting IT students.

About Codefest 2023

Codefest 2023 is a hackathon program in which the student will work on a project to solve the problem using technology.

As per the plan of Code for Change, the Codefest 2023 is going to start on Sep 21, 2023, at the Provincial Level which is going to end on Sep 28, 2023. After the provincial Level Codefest, There will be a gap before the final from Sep 29, 2023 – to October 5. The final event will be held from October 6, 2023, to October 8, 2023. The event will be organized in two different phases:

1. Provincial Level Competition

In the provincial-level competition, the team will have to register to represent their college or can register as an independent team. Each team can have 2-4 members in it. The team will be competing with the one from their province.

2. National Level Grand finale

The winners of each province from all seven provinces will compete against each other in the grand finale, which will take place in the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu.

The main theme of the event will be based on the 7 out of 17 SDGs-Sustainable Development Goals:

Good health and well-being: Products may relate to mental or physical health, fitness, yoga, medical MS, healthy food, etc.

Quality education: Products may relate to online learning student MS, Online Library, Compare sites, smart classrooms, etc.

Gender Equality: Products may relate to women empowerment platforms and problem-solving platforms.

Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Products may relate to startups like ride-sharing apps, digital wallets, e-commerce sites, Employee MS (attendance system), and Emergency systems.

Smart cities: Products may relate to pollution meters, traffic systems, households MS, online transportation, map management, tourism, waste management, and community/ culture.

Climate Action: Products may relate to reuse/recycle, eco-friendly ideas, pollution trackers, climate awareness apps, and plastic use elimination.

Peace, Justice & Strong Institution: Products may relate to decentralized banking, anti-corruption, decentralized governance (blockchain), crime report apps, etc.

The Participating Students Will Get Highly Encouraging Rewards

The winner of the CodeFest 2023 will be rewarded with the prize equivalent to NPR 50,000+ other gift hampers,

1st runner-up will be rewarded with the prize equivalent to NPR 25,000+ other gift hampers,

2nd runner-up will be rewarded with a prize equivalent to NPR 15,000+ other gift hampers.

And a category winner will be rewarded with a prize equivalent to NPR 10,000.

Regarding CFC’s grand event Code Fest 2023, Krishna Prasad Pokhrel, Project Lead at Code for Change shares,

“Codefest isn't just a hackathon; it's a platform where your ideas meet reality. It's a canvas where you paint the strokes of innovation, using technology as your brush. In this fast-paced world, innovation isn't a luxury; it's a necessity. And you, dear participants, are the trailblazers of this innovation. ”

The initial preparation for the CodeFest Hackathon has started and the registration process has progressed, and all kinds of tech-related students can form their teams and register. A minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 4 people will be allowed to participate in a team, while the participants should be studying bachelor in any college in Nepal.

The team registration fee is NPR 2000/- per team, and after the team arrives in Kathmandu, the organizers will arrange for accommodation and food for all the participants for the duration of the hackathon. The provincial competition has been initially projected to be held from September 18 to 25, while the Grand Finale is expected to be held in the country's capital, Kathmandu, on October 6, 7, and 8.
