Dr Mahavir Pun, the founder of the National Innovation Center and a Nepali scientist has been honoured in Portugal. Dr Pun, who is on a Europe visit, was honoured by the Myagdi Overseas Nepali Association (MONA) Portugal by organizing an event in the capital city, Lisbon.
The association has honoured Dr Pun for his contribution to the field of research, invention and technology. An interaction was also held with Dr Pun on the occasion. In the program, Dr Pun gave a presentation on his work, plans and activities of the National Innovation Center. He informed that the centre is working on various new researches and inventions including drones, agricultural-related materials, education, health materials, food, beverages, and robots.
Stating that employment should be created at home to prevent Nepali youth from going abroad, Dr Pun said that the country should be prosperous for job creation. He said that the country has not been able to develop as the state has not been able to identify and utilize efficient human capital properly. Stating that he is committed to the production of skilled human capital, Dr Pun said that the centre is encouraging those who are involved in new fields of discovery, research, invention, technology and entrepreneurship.
Dr Pun left for the UK on Wednesday to attend a program in Portugal. Earlier, Dr Pun had participated in the study, research, observation and interaction programs in the Nepali community and universities and research centres in the UK, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Norway, Poland, Italy and Spain.
Meanwhile, the association is also raising funds for the support of the National Innovation Center, said Dipu Magar, general secretary of the Myagdi Pravasi Nepali Sangha Portugal. The association has so far collected 6,000 euros to support the centre and about 10,000 euros will be collected and handed over to the centre, Magar said.
