Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam took two early wickets as Bangladesh reduced India to 85-3 at lunch on the first day of the opening test on Wednesday.

Taijul broke through with the wicket of Shubman Gill, who gave India a solid start with captain K.L. Rahul after India opted to bat first.

Later Taijul got the prized wicket of Virat Kohli for 1 to push India back before Rishabh Pant counter-attacked.

Pant was batting on 29 from 26 balls, hitting four fours and one six with Cheteshwar Pujara on 12 at the first interval of the day.

Gill and Rahul added 41 runs for the opening stand, before a premeditated paddle sweep brought Gill’s downfall for 20.

Rahul, who is leading the side in absence of injured Rohit Sharma, then dragged a modest delivery from pacer Khaled Ahmed (1-17) on to his stump to be out on 22.

The Indian batters appeared baffled by the pitch where balls kept low for most of the time. However Taijul got Kohli leg-before with a delivery that turned sharply.
