Edinson Cavani struck his first goal for Boca Juniors as the Buenos Aires giants began the second phase of Argentina's 2023 Primera Division with a 3-1 home win over Platense on Friday.
Exequiel Zeballos gave the hosts the lead with a 28th-minute strike, and he turned provider after halftime by supplying the cross for Cavani to head home at the far post.
Nicolas Morgantini reduced the deficit on the hour before Cristian Medina put the result beyond doubt by curling home a 25-yard drive in the 94th minute.
The result at La Bombonera lifts Boca to the top of the 14-team Group B standings while Platense are last.
"It was a great feeling. I was hoping to score my first goal here and I'm very happy that it worked out that way," said Cavani, who joined Boca on a free transfer at the end of last month after parting ways with Valencia.
In Friday's only other fixture, Gonzalo Morales' second-half strike canceled out Baltasar Gallego's opener as Union Santa Fe drew 1-1 at home to Racing Club.
