The Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) has recognized the Nepalgunj Marathon race which has been organized since 2015 in Nepalgunj. AIMS has given full membership to the Nepalgunj Marathon and has included the date of the event in its annual calendar. The annual calendar of AIMS includes the dates of races held at various locations around the world.
In a ceremony held today in Kathmandu, the certificate of recognition of the Nepalgunj Marathon by AIMS was handed over to the heads of Nepalgunj Sub Metropolitan Municipality and Kohalpur Municipality which are on the route of the marathon.
Nepalgunj Marathon has succeeded to be among the best marathon races organized in Nepal.
This year Dhara Nepalgunj Marathon will be organized on the 10th of December. This year, the race will be conducted in 11 different categories.
Shantoshi Shrestha, the winner of the half marathon competition last year, said that the route of Nepalgunj Marathon is the best route for her. The winner of the sixth edition of the Nepalgunj Marathon, Gopichandar Parki, said that the route of the Nepalgunj Marathon is better than that of the Berlin Marathon.
He shared his experience of completing the Nepalgunj Marathon in 2 hours and 18 minutes. Veteran actor Rajesh Hamal, who participated as a guest in the 7th Nepalgunj Marathon, said that he was impressed by the immense participation of local people during the Nepalgunj Marathon. In the past, he shared his experience of completing the half marathon held in New Delhi, India.
At that time, Olympian and senior athletics coach Raghuraj Onta expressed his happiness that Nepalgunj Marathon has established in Nepal. Secretary of Nepal Athletics Association RK Bista says that it is an achievement to make Nepalgunj Marathon the basis of selection for international sports.
Prashant Bista, Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City, hoped that this race would contribute to increasing internal and external tourism in Nepal. Purna Acharya, the head of Kohalpur Municipality informed that efforts will be made to include the other 6 municipalities of Banke in the Nepalgunj Marathon.
At the event, Nepal Tourism Board Manager Surya Thapaliya informed that the Tourism Board will help in branding the city to promote that area as a tourism hub during the Nepalgunj Marathon.
The Nepalgunj Marathon is conducted by Creative Hands Organisation every year.
