A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against Sandeep Lamichhane, the former captain of the Nepali national cricket team.
The Attorney General's Office has filed a petition in the Supreme Court demanding the annulment of the Patan High Court's order to release the cricketer Lamichhane, who was accused of raping a minor girl, on bail pending trial.
Sanjivraj Regmi, the spokesperson of the Attorney General's Office, has confirmed that in the petition filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, Lamichhane has been detained and the case should be tried.
According to Regmi, the application was filed on Tuesday on two grounds that the High Court Patan order to release cricketer Lamichhane on bail is contrary to the legal system and the Supreme Court's interpretation of detention in cases of a similar nature.
