Spanish police confirmed late on Thursday that they have arrested three members of the Real Madrid youth system for allegedly sharing a video of a sexual nature involving a minor.
The players, who have not been named, but are described as two members of the club's C-team and a member of the B-team squad, are not minors.
The police confirm the players were arrested at the Real Madrid training complex, "in connection with a complaint about an alleged release of a private video via WhatsApp," after a complaint from the girl's mother.
They are suspected of committing the crime of "revealing secrets of a sexual nature," and were released after police seized the data from their mobile phones.
Real Madrid issued a statement on their official website informing that: "Real Madrid wishes to announce that it has learned that a Castilla (B-team) player and three Real Madrid C players have made statements to the Civil Guard in relation to a complaint about the alleged broadcasting of a private video via WhatsApp."
"When the club has detailed knowledge of the facts, we will take the appropriate measures," reads the statement.
This incident comes after Luis Rubiales resigned as president of the Spanish Football Federation earlier this week, after criminal charges were leveled against him for kissing player Jenni Hermoso on the lips in the celebrations following Spain's 1-0 over England in the final of the women's World Cup.
The incident has caused controversy both in Spain and internationally, while leading to a revindication of women's rights throughout the country.
