Argentine footballer Sergio Aguero has announced his retirement from football on Wednesday.

Sergio Leonel Agüero del Castillo announced his retirement from football after his doctor advised him to do so due to his heart condition. Six months ago, Manchester City's record scorer joined Barcelona as a free agent.

The 33-year-old had experienced chest pain and breathing difficulties during the first half of Barcelona’s game against Alavés on 30 October, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Aguero got into the limelight as a footballer after joining Atletico Madrid in 2006. However, he got recognition as a world-class footballer when he joined Manchester City in 2011, where he is a club icon. Aguero scored a historic and one of the most dramatic last-minute goals to give Manchester City its Premier League title in 2012 after 40 years.

He has scored 386 club goals in 685 matches. He also scored 41 goals for Argentina in 101 games throughout his career.
