As many as 200 Buddhist monks and pilgrims who had set out on their on-foot journey to Buddhist sites from South Korea have arrived in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha.
The Lumbini Development Trust received the group amidst a function in Lumbini on Tuesday. Korean senior monk Qasung, a religious teacher (dharma guru), and other pilgrims arrived in Lumbini.
The Korean Buddhist dignitaries were received by Rupandehi constituency-5 parliamentarian Basudev Ghimire, Lumbini Development Trust's vice-chairperson Abadesh Kumar Tripathi and Lumbini Municipality mayor Sajaruddin Musalman, among others.
The Korean pilgrims' group had offered worship at Mayadevi Temple wishing for global peace today. Korean Ambassador Park Chong-Suk was also present on the occasion.
Parliamentarian Ghimire and Ambassador Park expressed happiness to welcome the group of Buddhist monks in Lord Buddha's birthplace, Lumbini. They expressed their confidence that such exchanges would take the friendly relations between Nepal and Korea to a new height.
The entourage also comprises the national media of South Korea. The Korean team would travel to India via the Karahawa checkpoint on Wednesday morning.
