The elephant breeding centre in Chitwan National Park has recorded 41 births of calves since its establishment in 2044BS.
Among 55 elephants in the breeding centre, five were brought from abroad while others born in Nepal. Information officer at CNP, Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, informed that among five elephants brought from abroad, four are from India and one from Thailand.
Among the total elephants in the breeding centre, four have grown old. Even the elephants used for hunting by the royal family in the park are in the centre now.
Elephants are also used for patrolling in the park. Elephant patrolling is conducted in the places inaccessible to jeeps.
