The ministry of home affairs has decided to place a ban on travel from African nations into Nepal. Chief of the Immigration Department Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said on Sunday that the Home Ministry had decided to prohibit African nationals from entering Nepal due to the risk of a new variant of COVID-19, Omicron.

A new variant of Corona 'Omicron' has been discovered in South Africa. Discussions were also held in the meeting of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Coordination Committee on Sunday to prevent this variant from spreading within Nepal. It has also been decided to keep Nepali passport holders and diplomats coming from Africa quarantined in hotels as per health criteria.

Bhattarai said that a circular has been issued to stop the entry of African nationals by land as well as by air. He said, "Circulars have been issued not to allow entry except for Nepali passport holders, ambassadors, and their families."
