A memorial gallery of Late Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, a National hero and the first Nepalese woman Mount Everest Summiter, has been established. A gallery was established at Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality 2 Lukla with the goal of commemorating her life's work and achievements.
The gallery built under the leadership of Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation was inaugurated on Sunday.
Laxman Adhikari, Ward Chairman of Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality 4, inaugurated the gallery, Chetu Sherpa, General Secretary of the foundation informed. The gallery covers the history of various mountain climbing activities along with the activities of the late Pasanglhamu Sherpa from 1961 to 1993.
According to the foundation, a gallery has been established for the initial stage of the work with the aim of establishing the Pasang Lhamu Museum in Khumbu, the village where Pasanglhamu was born.
According to the foundation, more than 500 local and foreign tourists visited the gallery on the opening day. The foundation has also prepared to establish a gallery of Pasang Lhamu at the International Mountain Museum in Pokhara.
The late Pasanglhamu Sherpa climbed Mt. Everest for the first time as a Nepali woman on April 22, 1993. Along with all the information of the late Pasanglhamu Sherpa, the gallery also includes the information of Nepali women who have climbed Mount Everest and other famous women climbers. It has been reported that 61 Nepali women have climbed Mount Everest.
The Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation has been doing service work by establishing an indoor wall climbing center for the first time in Nepal, and establishing the Pasang Lhamu Nicole Niki Hospital in Lukla.
The foundation has been doing service work in the field of livelihood training for women climbers, capacity building and education and health for women and children in the Himalayan region.
