Mountaineers attempting to scale Mt Everest have started going to the Base Camp. Earlier, most climbers had returned to Namche Bazaar as there were warnings that the weather could be very adverse due to Tropical Cyclone Tauktae.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology had a couple of days back warned climbers not to attempt to scale Mt Everest for a few days. It had advised mountaineers to stay in safe places because there was a danger of the weather turning adverse.
The Department of Tourism had also advised climbers to put on hold expeditions till the weather clears out. Mira Acharya, Director of the Department of Tourism, who is also the head of the Mountaineering Section of the department, had told NepalNews on May 17 that Cyclone Tauktae had hampered expeditions.
In fact, Pratibha Manandhar, Senior Meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, while speaking to NepalNews, had also warned that climbers could face problems due to the Tauktae.
Meanwhile, more than 150 mountaineers have already climbed Mt Everest according to Acharya. A team comprising Bahraini prince Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa had also scaled Mt Everest.
They are among the 408 climbers (93 female and 315 male) who have obtained the permit to climb Mt Everest this spring season.,
