The Khumbu Icefall Route to Mt Everest is ready for the climbers this spring. On Wednesday, the icefall doctors from the Everest Pollution Control Committee (SPCC) completed the route speculation for this year's spring trip to Everest, Mount Lhotse and Mount Nupse via Khumbu Icefall.
A team of SPCC's icefall Doctors, Aang Sarki Sherpa, Dawa Nuru Sherpa, Pemba Chhiring Sherpa, Sonam Chhiring Sherpa, Chewang Nuru Sherpa and Ngima Galgen Sherpa started the route speculation on March 20, 2022.
The icefall doctors are the climbers who have gained experience in mountaineering and known for making their way in the snow. Every year, they are tasked with paving the way to the second camp of Everest.
They make their way from the base camp of Everest to the rugged terrain around Khumbu Icefall. They have the opportunity to set different records by using the road they have built. When doing this, two or three ladders are added to cross. The SBCC recommends that safety precautions should be strictly followed by climbing operators, climbers and those working on high altitudes. According to the rules, there should be only one climber on any ladder at any given time.
Strict adherence to safety measures, such as cutting harnesses on safety ropes while on the stairs, is also requested.
During this spring's climbing season, all climbing operators who have been granted permission to operate ascents of Mount Everest, Lhotse and Nupse will be required to collect their clients' fees for the Khumbu Snow Route, according to SPCC Chief Executive Officer Chiring Sherpa. They are requested to send a copy of the deposit slip to the head office of SPCC at Namche Bazaar with the climbing group leader or guide at the time of registration.
Meanwhile a team of eight Sherpas, managed by the Nepal Tour Operators Association (EOA), has left for the mountains from the second camp at Mt. Everest and Lhotse Mountains.
World-renowned climber Kami Rita Sherpa has led the fixing team. Kami Rita aims to break his own record of climbing Mt. Everest the most (25 times). The team plans to fix the peak rope in both the peaks by the first week of May.
Rope Fixing in the higher 8000m is multi-days of altitude work and a challenging task – which then allows permitted individual climbers, small or big teams, to make altitude activities on the mountain.
