Construction of motorable bridges on Kaligandaki River and its tributaries has started on Beni-Jomsom-Korla road under Kaligandaki Corridor. Until a few years ago, people had to travel across the Bailey Bridge and the river, but now with the construction of a concrete bridge, the traffic is getting easier. The dangerous condition of Beni-Jomsom road section is being revamped after the construction of concrete bridge has started in the context of upgrading work including blacktopping.
Construction of motorable bridges at Pokhrebagar and Mahabhir in Annapurna village municipality of Myagdi has been completed under the same road section. A 70-meter-long and 11-meter-wide concrete bridge has been constructed on the Kaligandaki River at the border of Ward No. 2 and 6 at Pokhgarebagar, the center of Annapurna village municipality of Myagdi, under the contract of the Western Region Sector Office of the Bridge Division under the Ministry of Physical Planning and Transport.
Him-Sagarmatha-Danphe-Bajraguru JV, which got the contract for Rs 82.4 million, completed the bridge construction after a short delay due to coronavirus. Due to the epidemic, floods and other reasons, the deadline was extended by one year to be completed by mid-January of 2022.
Earlier, a concrete bridge had been constructed on the Kaligandaki River connecting Annapurna-7 and Raghuganga-1 Tiplyang in Mahabhira. The department has stated that the 80-meter-long and 11-meter-wide motorable bridge has been contracted for Rs 99 million including VAT. The work had been completed last September and now the bridge is being operated.
Him-Sagarmatha-Danphe-Bajraguru JV had won the contract in February 2018 for the construction of two motorable bridges on the Kaligandaki river at Pokhrebagar and Mahabhira. The contractor himself has designed the bridge for the construction of both the 11-meter wide bridges. The road was opened in fiscal year 2007/08. The construction company has stated that the construction of the bridge has been completed within the time limit extended by the government even though the construction time was postponed for one year due to the Corona epidemic, injunction and floods.
Nine motorable bridges have been completed on the road connecting Beni to Korla Naka under the Kaligandaki Corridor section. Project Chief Jagat Prajapati informed that 12 more bridges are under construction under the Beni-Jomsom-Korla road section of 186 km. According to him, five more bridges have been proposed.
